Hello Scarborough Middle School Families,
Unfortunately, the 6th grade field trips to GMRI next Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday have been canceled due to staffing issues at GMRI. Doubly unfortunately, there is no rescheduling option, so we will not be going to GMRI this year. As such, 6th graders will be attending all of their classes as scheduled next week.
The pooled testing program that has been underwritten by the Maine Department of Education is coming to a close this week. Knowing that there continues to be a prevalence of COVID in our communities, the state has made a box of 5 at home tests available for each student and staff member in our district. We are distributing those tests in student backpacks today. There is an informational sheet attached.

Hello Scarborough Middle School Families,
It has come to our attention that there are students in our school who have used their phones to download and have used an app called, iGun Pro, that simulates the sound of gunfire. We have worked to address the cases that have been referred to the office. The meetings have involved an educational discussion and parent contact.
In order to provide a safe learning environment for all members of our school community, we ask that you help by reinforcing our message of the importance of school safety and that these apps are not appropriate for use on the school campus or on our district transportation.

MEA testing at the middle school begins on May 4th.
SMS MEA Testing Dates:

May 4: 8th Grade Science

May 11: Mathematics

May 12: Reading
-
May 13: Language Use
It is anticipated that the testing each morning will take place from 8:00 am to 10:00 am. If you need to have your child dismissed for any reason, please send in a note with your child to inform the office. Also, it would be very much appreciated if any dismissals are scheduled for after testing periods. Make-ups will be scheduled for students who are absent during testing.
What students should do prior to each test day:

Get a good night’s sleep.

Eat a good breakfast.
-
Make sure laptops are fully charged.
-
Come to school on time as testng will begin at 8:00 am.

Relax and try their best.

Hello Scarborough Middle School Families,
Our SMS Student Council is thrilled to announce that dances are returning to the middle school after social distancing for the last couple of years! More details to come, but for now: 6th and 7th graders, mark Friday, May 13th on your calendars!
An 8th grade parent meeting to discuss volunteer opportunities for the 8th Grade Celebration dance has been scheduled for Monday, April 11 at 5pm in the SMS Learning Commons. More information along with the volunteer sign up can be found here.
